How to Grill the Perfect Summer Steak

Being a great hunter is only a portion of the equation to being a man. The one thing that stands between even the greatest hunter and a great meal is his ability to both prepare and grill it to perfection.

A raw slab of meat plus an open fire = food for survival. But a hot pan, sirloin cut steak, plus Cognac Flambé = the perfect summer steak. And yes, you could always visit a fancy steakhouse to achieve the same finale, but it’s just more satisfying to complete this journey on your own. And it is not that difficult to achieve so long as you’ve got the right guidance. And we’ve got two of the best.

Gordon Ramsay’s Steak Diane

All you need to begin is an extremely hot pan and these 10 ingredients:

  • 4 x small sirloin steaks, approx 7 oz.
  • 3 shallots, peeled
  • 4 ounces crimini mushrooms (or button mushrooms), cleaned
  • 1 tablespoon salted butter
  • 1 garlic clove, peeled
  • 1 -2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1/3 cup brandy or cognac
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • Handful of flat-leaf parsley

Jamie Oliver’s Perfect Steak

There is more than one way to cook the perfect steak and Jamie Oliver’s version gets simplified down to only six ingredients and one carefully chosen piece of meat:

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Pinch of salt and black pepper
  • 1 knob (let’s rather say, tablespoon) of salted butter
  • 1 garlic clove, halved
  • Rosemary or Thyme, bunched on the handle of a spoon to act as a brush

In case you still have questions, the below chart should help you work through most problems on your own.
