When you think of a diet, I bet your first thoughts are eating more steak, good fats, and remembering to fill yourself up with a big breakfast every morning. No? Well, perhaps you’ve not been introduced to the one diet that helps you lose weight, all while still allowing you to eat a lot of the foods that you want to be eating.
But we’re not going to lie to you and tell you that you can do whatever in the hell you want and still lose those stubborn pounds that you’ve been promising yourself to get rid of. There are some sacrifices to every win, but what we can promise you is that you are definitely not going to starve, and you actually might enjoy yourself along the way to that shredded new you.
These are the most important weight loss discoveries you should know:
Have a Big Breakfast
Our personal trainer is always complaining that we are not eating enough for breakfast. A couple of eggs and some oatmeal just won’t cut it if you want to build a lean muscular physique. If you eat a big meal for breakfast, you kick the metabolism in for a strong pace for the day. You also boost your energy throughout the day, and curb those cravings that tend to sneak in towards bedtime, which is the worst time to eat a lot of anything.
Eat More (Good Food)
We have learned that it really does not pay to eat small amounts throughout the day, as it will leave you in a state of stress and food focus. Stress causes the body to hold onto fat, and thinking about food will get in the way of just about everything else you want to accomplish (including your daily workout).
Earn Your Meals
Lowered stress levels perk up your metabolism, but the most effective way to jump-start calorie burning for the day is a good solid workout (at least 30-minutes). You don’t need a gym membership either, as you’d be surprised how much work you can get in with a couple of sets of kettlebells. And keep in mind that the earlier you train, the more time your body will have to take advantage of the increased metabolism, so don’t put off your workout until the last part of your day. For almost every app-driven diet, the more you workout, the more you can eat, it is just that simple.
Mindful Eating
Mindful this and mindful that, we’re kind of tired of hearing that catch-phrase, but it can actually help to build a shredded physique if you learn to listen to your cravings. When you are food-driven, your mind focuses on the quickest way to get satisfaction and calories, and these are not often what your body is truly craving. Being mindful of your meals means being in the moment and not allowing visual cravings to rule you but rather a true instinct as to what your body is asking for. You may be surprised by what sounds good if you allow your mind to do the suggesting, rather than those ravenous cravings.
Carbohydrate Substitutions
The quickest way to lose weight is to drop carbs off your menu. Well, that doesn’t sound like fun, you might be saying. But with today’s gluten-free fad still all the rage, it is actually easy to find substitutes for most any carbohydrates you currently enjoy, and not really miss them all that much (especially if you’re being mindful). A juicy burger without the bun, spaghetti & meatballs substituting spaghetti squash instead of pasta, and sausage pizza on top of a cauliflower crust.
Forget Fat-Free
Gluten-free may have surpassed the “fat-free” trend, but it is still around and is still confusing a lot of people. Fat is actually not your worst enemy when it comes to being shredded and healthy. Sugars and simple carbs (which is just another form of sugar as far as your body is concerned) are much worse. A good quality fat will fuel your body, help you to feel full, and will keep your cells in good working order.
If you want to stay clear of something truly bad in your life, avoid those sugary soft drinks and recovery drinks. And remember to read those labels on everything from protein powder to bread, because not all ‘health food’ is actually healthy.
