The Go-Comb. We had never heard of these until we were offered to give one a test drive last month. What you are looking at is basically a 3.25” X 2” stainless steel comb that is also about 0.1 centimeters thick. This is slightly smaller than your average credit card, so it will fit right into your standard wallet slot.
Our verdict is: Yeah, we like it.
The one we tested was flexible stainless steel, but not the cheap kind of flexible we frown on. This isn’t the kind of metal that bends out of shape like a bad TV antenna, but rather the good stuff that flexes when you need it to and then coaxes right back into shape with minimum effort. Confucius say: If you plan on storing anything on your butt for the long-term, make sure it flexes at least a little.
We wondered just how useful a comb this small was going to be, and what we found is that it certainly gets the job done. The bristles are strong, so they can work through a variety of hair thickness. These also come with a variety of tooth spacing, so these will also work on beards. And while I am partial to using a brush in the morning, I gave this a good test while on a trip to Vegas recently, and it did a great job of keeping me tidy. And it did save some space in my travel bag.
The Go-Comb was initially a successful Kickstarter funded project, but now the company is taking off in all sorts of directions, including different designs, colors, personalization options and materials (brass, wood, stainless, plastic). We’ve never really thought of a comb as a gentleman’s style accessory, but when you hold the Go-Comb in your hand it really does present itself well.
If your the kind of guy who likes to have a plastic comb in his pocket everywhere you go—this is a ‘huge’ upgrade over the traditional black plastic. It fits in your pocket better, is more subtle, durable, classy and also works a little better in our opinion. We’re curious to see what this company is going to come up with next.
