In case you didn’t know, your plumber can probably do a heck of a lot more than snake toilets, install sinks, and fix a leaky faucet. However, we never expected a top of the line supercar to come out of one, but Steve Sutcliffe of Holland has proven us wrong.
The true beauty behind this supercar is that it has been hand built from a team of only 10 dedicated auto enthusiasts. The Vencer Sarthe prohibits the use of most electronic voodoo (traction control, etc.), and leaves the driving up to its incredibly balanced chassis and burly supercharged V8. In other words, you better know what you’re getting into before you mash your foot down with only a hope, wish, and a prayer.
The Vencer Sarthe comes with a 622 horsepower supercharged V8, which also happens to boast 618 lb-ft of torque. This is not too much less than the upcoming Corvette Z06, which has 650 for both its peak (horsepower) and grunt (torque). What it can do with all that ground twisting, old-fashioned mechanical mahem is deliver 0-62 in 3.6-seconds, a top speed of 210 mph, and still maintain an average fuel consumption of 21 mpg.
Did we mention is was designed by a former plumber?
This supercar will go for somewhere around a half million dollars per car, but by most expert opinion, it should be worth every penny. Only 12 Vencer Sarthe’s will be built per year, and only time will tell if Sutcliffe can quit his day job and move into Ferrari’s territory.
