If the Nissan GT-R is Godzilla, then the GT-R Nismo must be Mechagodzilla. The details have been released on the 2015 GT-R Nismo, and this super car is absolutely gorgeous both inside and out.
Starting where all the magic happens, its 3.8-liter twin turbo has been set up with a pair of GT3 turbochargers. In other words, these are the same turbines you’d find on Nismo’s GT3 supercar. The result is 600 horsepower and 481 lb-ft of torque, which is actually ‘dialed back’ a bit because their engineers were concerned the GT-R’s six-speed dual clutch automatic might not be up to the task.
On the outside, the GT-R Nismo is all business, utilizing new aerodynamics and a larger rear wing. These additions look fantastic, however, their true purpose is to load the GT-R down with about 220 pounds of extra down force, which will improve its handling substantially. There is also a handful of parts that have been replaced with carbon fiber, reducing its weight by an additional 143 pounds from the base GT-R.
The former FIA GT1 champion, Michael Krumm has had the Nissan Nismo GT-R around Nurburgring a couple times, and 7:08.69 was its best lap. That is only around 13-seconds slower than many hypercars, including the Porsche 918 and quite possibly the McLaren P1. To put it into another perspective, the Nismo GT-R will cost you around $150K, instead of the almost $1 million for the 918 Spyder. Now that’s a ‘Blue Light’ Special.
Yeah, we’re in love.
