How to Navigate Your Grocery Store for Better Health

At the root of belly fat is poor diet and a sedentary lifestyle. We’ve given you advice on putting together a manly workout at home, staying motivated, achieving a six-pack, and maintaining it. Today, we’re going to be talking about conquering the battleground, otherwise known as your local grocery store.

We hate to tell you this, but your food market is not your friend. Those bright walls, soft music, and convenient chocolate snacks at the checkout are only there for one reason… to pull as much money out of you as psychologically possible.

However, there are several ways you can fight back:

  1. Shop the Perimeter– You may already know that it is a hell of a lot more healthier to eat around crème filled donuts. However, there is also benefit to shopping around the perimeter of your supermarket. This is because most of the processed foods, stuffed with sodium, preservatives, and fructose, are located in the middle aisles.
  2. The Old “Milk Ploy”– Prepare yourself before heading in to get a gallon of milk and toilet paper, as most supermarkets put the milk as far away as possible, and the center isle, closest to the door, usually has their most tempting and profitable items beckoning you to indulge your flab pack and love handles. Don’t fall for this psychological warfare. Stay as far away from the middle isles as possible, by planning a path around the junk food.
  3. Make a list– Your memory has a way of protecting your self image by remembering only the good stuff you put in your cart. The only way to make sure you’re not getting an excessive amount of processed junk, is to make a food list before you go, and stick to it.
  4. Get a Leg Workout– The food store knows that you’re in a hurry, and will probably grab the stuff that is the easiest to reach. The problem is, quite often, the healthiest choices are placed on the lower shelves, as they are the ones that rake in the least profit. Take time to do a squat each time you stop to get something, and you’ll not only save a little money, but find healthier choices too.
