Classic Cars Are Still Cool

Lately, car manufacturers have been strategically bringing back a few of the cool oldies of yesteryear… including the Dodge Charger, Challenger, and Chevrolet Camaro. While these may be great modern classics, there are still a few true classics we’d rather go for a spin in.

Buick Grand National GNX-

1987 Buick Regal GNX Coupe 185755
This is one of the baddest slabs of American muscle that ever came packaged within the format of a V-6. Packing only a humble 3.8 liter turbo, the Grand National demanded ultimate respect when it introduced its 1987 limited edition GNX. This was the last year of its production, and Buick decided to go out with a bang.

With what has been called the height of its decade of existence, the limited edition GNX featured a Garrett turbocharger with lightweight ceramic impeller. Considering the decreased weight of the turbo, its pressure could now be set at 15 psi, which transformed its original 165 horses into 275 bhp and 360 lb-ft of torque.

This classic sports coupe continues to be a well respected car on the street. And to tell you the truth, there are few cars that look this good in a gloss black finish (the GNX only came in black) and gleaming chrome highlights.

Porsche 930 (“Wide Body”)-

Classic-Porsche
The 930 was basically the race version of the infamous 911. The Type 930 S Coupe consisted of a stock 911 body, with flared fenders to protect its beautiful paint from the wider wheels and tires. It also had a unique whale tail rear spoiler, and featured the infamous (albeit ‘laggy’) KKK turbocharger.

The Porsche 930 S was originally designed for racing. With its 3.3-liter six-cylinder engine (two valves per cylinder), it could manage a hearty 300 horsepower, and catapult itself from 0 to 60 in just 5 seconds.

This classic was (and still is) a rare find. It was not even sold in the US from 1979 through 1985. Okay, okay… before anybody says the obvious, we understand that a new 911 turbo is freaking awesome.  However, for less than half the price, an original 930 still has a special place in our hearts.
