The best style advice for any plus-size guy, is to let confidence carry whatever it is that you are wearing. Style has been said to be 30 percent attitude and 70 percent knowing what the hell you’re doing. Considering that at least a portion of us guys have absolutely no idea about fashion, Urbasm has put together this helpful style guide for you bigger fellas.
- Avoid Baggy Clothes– A lot of plus-size guys think they can hide their bacon bits behind an XXL shirt and pair of jumbo wide jeans. However, by completely avoiding tailored fit clothes, you are creating an illusion of being bigger, more ambiguous, and less defined than you actually are. Every guy has his good parts (arms, butt, etc.), so go ahead and show them off.
- Buy Low-Rise Jeans/Pants– A big guy can get in a lot of trouble in the pants department. A pair of pants with a high waist may feel comfortable, but they will only emphasize any bulge in the belly region. Low-rise jeans offer a much shorter distance between the crotch and hips, giving the illusion of a trimmer waist. Pleats are another no-no, as they can amplify the size of your pelvis region, and we’re not talking about magnifying your Johnson!
- Keep the Hawaiian Prints in Hawaii– We see a multitude of large-and-in-charge guys walking around in Hawaiian print shirts. These guys figure that all the crazy patterns will confuse the eyes, making them appear vibrant and fun. Unfortunately, the eye only scans across the pattern, locating all the areas where they can tell the pattern has been bent out of shape, due to a roll, lump, or bump.
- Solid, Dark Colors are Thinning– If you’re looking to lose a quick ten pounds, consider a solid, dark outfit. This will be prove to be the best diet you’ve ever not gone on.
- Throw on a Tie– A tie mixed with a solid, dark ensemble can draw the eyes downward, creating the illusion of a slimmer silhouette. Go with vertical stripes on the shirt to give your torso added length (rather than width).
- Empty Your Pockets– This goes for any sized guy; the stuff in your pockets is taking away from the smooth lines of your clothing. Take along a man bag if you really need to carry stuff.
